Students in K-5 will be using a different math series in the 2019-2020 school year. It's called Go Math. The program was piloted in our second grade classrooms at SPCS this past school year. After considering several different math series, Go Math was selected as the best choice for our children.
Go Math is different from the math series we have previously used at SPCS.  We conducted a survey of 2nd grade parents about Go Math. 83% of SPCS 2nd grade parents who responded said they noticed a difference between Go Math and the math series that was taught in previous years.  When asked what advice they would give to parents whose children are about to begin Go Math, 2nd grade parents' responses included:
  • Have a positive attitude about it, and your kids will too.
  • Pay attention early to get used to the format.
  • Embrace the new way of learning math concepts and use the interactive app to help when you and your child does not understand how they are teaching a math concept differently than how you were originally taught.
  • Patience.  If [the parents] aren't accustomed to sitting down and monitoring/helping with homework, they may need to be advised it would be very helpful for their student...and honestly easier on them in the long run too. It can really make a parent think.
