On April 18, Mrs. Tew was honored during a live interview on WITN News at Sunrise, winning a plaque and a $100 gift card to buy supplies for her classroom. Tew has been teaching at Saint Peter for 18 years.
“I think of kindergarten as fun with a purpose,” Tew wrote to the station. “Play is work at this age, and I do my best to ensure that each child enjoys learning by incorporating a variety of fun and educational activities into my lessons. Kindergarten is a wonderful grade to teach. It is a time of great growth, physically, emotionally, socially, academically and spiritually. I love teaching kindergarten and enjoy watching my former students as they progress through Saint Peter and beyond.”
The parent who nominated Tew wrote in part: “She truly gave both my children a wonderful educational foundation in Kindergarten, as well as a warm and loving welcome everyday they came into Saint Peter Catholic School. My daughter still stops in her room each morning and gives her a ‘good morning’ hug. Mrs. Tew has that love for all of her students.”
