Catechesis of the Good Shepherd
St. Peter Catholic School is enriching catechism for ages 3-6 (Grades PK3 through 1st grade) through Catechesis of the Good Shepherd, starting in August 2022.
Since 1954, this catechism has rich roots in fostering the religious potential of the child and the child's innate need to know and experience a relationship in the love of Jesus Christ. It is through the persistence of Italian Montessori collaborators Sofia Cavaletti and Gianna Gobbi who brought to life the means for which this relationship between the child and the Lord is nurtured in the space called the "Atrium." Here the child's interpersonal relationship with God is fostered by way of the Holy Spirit as the teacher, the adult observer, and through tangible materials provided by the adult. The Atrium serves as a vessel where Jesus Chris is revealed as the good shepherd who loves, cares for and calls each of his sheep by name. In the Atrium children will find joy in the mystery of our faith in working with materials, such as articles of the Mass, haring scripture, contemplation of spiritual parables, seeing images of scripture, spontaneous celebrations and experience gestures of the Mass as their needs evolve. Please pray for the needs of the child to be met through this beautiful catechism. "Early childhood is the time of serene enjoyment of God, when the response the creature gives to God consists in the very acceptance of the gift in fullness of joy." - Sofia Cavalletti |
