Glossary of SPCS Lingo
A list of frequently used terms and acronyms
After School: after school care for students until 6 pm on most school days.
Accelerated Reader (AR): a computer program designed to help our teachers and librarian manage a child's independent reading. The child picks a book at his or her own level and reads it in their free time. The child will then take a short quiz on a computer to ensure he or she understood the content of the book. The quiz results help teachers set goals for the child to continue their reading practice.
Brother Patrick: This is the private road that runs from 4th St. to 5th St. along the west side of the school. Students in Kindergarten will be dropped off at the double doors on Brother Patrick at their appointed drop-off time.
Computer Aided Design (CAD): CAD is a program that students use in art class to create designs that may eventually be printed in the 3-D printer.
HSA: Home-School Association. This is our version of a PTA. The HSA sponsors several family events a year and works to enhance the educational mission of the school.
NUT Day: No Uniform Today (a day out of uniform; students must follow dress code in handbook)
RenWeb: We use this system to post grades, lesson plans and the monthly lunch menu.
Room Parent: The parent who helps coordinate activities in each classroom.
Wildcat Closet: where families donate gently used every day uniforms that they no longer need. Items in the closet are free for the taking.
Virtue Awards: awards handed out to students in K-5 after the all-school Mass on the last Friday of the month (typically). Parents will be notified in advance so they may attend the ceremony.

When Saint Peter Catholic School is operating without COVID-19 guidelines, these are phrases you may wish to know.
Break: Middle School students get a 10-15 minute “break” mid-morning in the cafeteria each day. It is the perfect time to socialize with friends and have a snack.

Dress uniform/Mass uniform: what students wear on Fridays (unless specifically noted otherwise), plaid for girls and shirt and tie for boys. **The dress uniform has suspended for the 2020-21 school year.
Every day uniforms: what students wear Monday-Thursday (unless specifically noted otherwise), generally a polo with bottoms.
Holding Room: the name given to the classroom where students in grades K-5 who have siblings in grades 6-8 go when they dismiss at 2:55 pm. At 3:10 pm, the K-5 students in Holding Room will be brought to the cafeteria, so they can dismiss with their older siblings. Parents who have students in grade 6-8 should wait to pick up all of their children at 3:10 pm.
PLC: Professional Learning Communities. On PLC days, school will be dismissed one hour earlier than normal. These days generally fall on the first and third Thursday of the month.
