Three students from Saint Peter Catholic School placed first in the state for their grade levels in the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) essay contest.
Rose Bacon is a sixth grader, Wyatt Claybrook is a seventh grader, and Meredith Phillips is an eighth grader at Saint Peter. All three completed essays as an assignment in Social Studies class at Saint Peter Catholic School. The local DAR chapter sent their essays for judging at the state level, which were named best in the state for their grade levels.
The topic of the essay this year was the Boston Massacre, as this month marked the 250th anniversary of the pivotal event in American history. Essays are judged for historical accuracy, adherence to the topic, organization of materials, interest, originality, spelling, grammar, punctuation, and neatness.
Bacon, Claybrook and Phillips have earned bronze and silver medals for their work. Their essays will next be judged on the national level; they could win a gold medal and a monetary prize.
