At the Heart of Art |
The Art Program and Curriculum at Saint Peter Catholic School is nothing short of outstanding. Mr. John Bell, with more than 25 years of teaching experience, has taught PreK through Grade 8 Art at St. Peter Catholic School for more than 15 years. Mr. Bell focuses on an interdisciplinary approach to teaching and presented STREAM (Science, Religion, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Mathematics) workshops at the Diocesan Teacher Conference, as well as multiple workshops throughout his years in the Diocese. He was the Visual Arts chairperson of Catholic Schools Live in 2014 and 2015.
Mr. Bell connects what students learn in the classroom to what they create in class. Students get to produce intricate creations using 3-D printing and Computer Aided Design (CAD). |
Hand and Forearm SculpturesAfter cutting a piece of cardboard in the shape of their hands and forearms, and folding it along the joints, students added wadded newspaper to the front and back of their cardboard to approximate their own anatomical forms. This project reinforces concepts taught in 7th grade science class and is part of our school’s STEM approach. Prior to creating their sculptures, students observed anatomical illustrations to draw the bones of their hands and forearms.
