There is wonderful pride and joy in wearing the Blue and Green and representing the Wildcats in interscholastic sports!

St. Peter’s Catholic School regards our interscholastic sports’ program as an integral asset to the development of the whole child.  Through the dedication and generosity of our volunteer coaches, our student-athlete learns many valuable lessons.  One becomes aware of the time commitment one must make for practice and games—a commitment that is made to the coaching staff and one’s teammates.  One comes to recognize the athletic talents that God has graced not only the individual, but everyone on one’s team!  This calls for supporting one’s teammates and appreciating their accomplishments on the court or field!  It is crucial to learn to be selfless and to sacrifice for others.  There are common goals for a team to achieve and that means each student-athlete must be willing to have the courage to overcome fatigue and frustration!  There is the joy of victory and accomplishment, but also the life-long lesson of learning how to respond to defeat with the true spirit of sportsmanship!

Participation in our interscholastic program is a privilege for our students.  Our school has a policy that affords every student who wishes to play, the opportunity to play!  This is provided that the Athletic Department has the coaches and equipment for each program.  Our interscholastic sports include:

            FALL

Football (Boys in grades 7 & 8 only)

                       Girls’ Volleyball

                       Cheerleading

EASTERN INDEPENDENT CONFERENCE (St. Mary’s in Goldsboro, Infant of Prague in Jacksonville, St. Paul’s in New Bern, and Annunciation in Havelock) for basketball.  The season concludes the first weekend of March with a three-day tournament.  Hosting the tournament rotates among the five Catholic schools.  The 2007 tournament is at St. Mary’s in Goldsboro.

Our Sports

Chess Club

In March 2005, a student chess club was formed.  The

Chess Club meets weekly and is open to students in

grades 3 and up.  The club is coached and coordinated by

a volunteer. Students interested in participating need to complete an application.  We will post events and updates as they occur.

Middle School students who are members of the Beta Club demonstrate

outstanding academic achievement, exemplify worthy character, and
